Hazlehurst Courthouse Dome5

This is the newly renovated interior of the courthouse dome in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. For many years, you couldn't see the inside of this beautiful dome. For some reason there was a regular ceiling that blocked this view from the public. The courthouse was built some time in the 1800's.

Last year, the courthouse officials had it renovated, and then opened to the public for the first time in decades. There are three floors to this part. Everything is original to the building.
Hazlehurst is the County Seat for Copiah County, Mississippi. It is located about 40 minutes South of Jackson, the state capital, and is about 10 minutes from where I live.
